The Abafundi Food Initiative (“AFI”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).

When you apply for food support through AFI, we collect:

•Contact details (phone number, email address)
•University name and student number
•Proof of registration or student card
•Financial support status (e.g., bursary or NSFAS details)
•Details about your food insecurity situation
•Any other details you provide in your application form
2. Why do we collect your information?
We collect this information to:
•Assess your eligibility for food support
•Communicate with you about your application
•Distribute vouchers or food parcels to successful applicants
•Report on our impact in an anonymised way
3. How do we protect your information?
We store your information securely and limit access to authorised team members or volunteers who need it to process your application. We will not sell your personal data to any third parties.
4. Who do we share your information with?
•We may share your information with our service providers strictly for purposes of delivering your support.
•We may be legally required to share certain data with regulatory bodies if demanded by law.
•Otherwise, we do not share your personal information with third parties.
5. How long do we keep your information?
We will keep your information only as long as needed to process your application and comply with any legal reporting obligations, then securely destroy or de-identify it.
